Washington, May 1 /Xin Hua/ — Thanks to the current ceasefire, the war between the USA and Iran has effectively “ended” before the expiration of the 60-day term, after which the American president is obliged to turn to Congress. This was reported on Thursday by American media citing a high-ranking representative of the Donald Trump administration.

According to the resolution on war powers, the U.S. president must by Friday turn to Congress for permission to continue the conflict or end it. It is also possible to postpone the deadline by another 30 days.

“The hostilities /between the USA and Iran/, which began on Saturday, February 28, have ceased” in the context of this law, an anonymous official told journalists.

Washington and Tehran did not exchange strikes during the ceasefire period, which came into effect on April 7 and was subsequently extended. –0–
