Nanning, May 1 /Xinhua/ — Premier of the State Council Li Qiang emphasized the necessity of accelerating the construction of the main infrastructure of the national water network to ensure fundamental support and important guarantees for the socio-economic development of the country.
Li Qian, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made this statement during an inspection trip to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Southern China), which took place from April 29 to May 1.
The head of the Chinese government emphasized the importance of coordinating the planning and construction of water infrastructure at all levels and enhancing the integrated use of water resources.
During his visit to the city of Nanning, Li Qian familiarized himself with the functioning of the flood control systems and hydro junctions of the Guansi-Chuansky A, as well as analyzed the work on the integrated improvement of the banks of the Yuntzian River. He noted that the creation of a reliable water network is a strategic measure aimed at strengthening the potential in the field of flood prevention and reducing the risks of natural disasters, optimizing the distribution of water resources, and ensuring national water security.
Li Qian called for activating efforts to develop the water network, coordinating the implementation of existing and new projects, promoting the upgrade and digital intellectualization of hydraulic infrastructure, and focusing on improving the efficiency of this network.
After visiting the construction site of one channel in the city of Qinzhou, the Premier of the State Council emphasized the importance of high standards and high quality in the construction of the channel and major transport hubs to ensure the unimpeded movement of vessels in accordance with the schedule. Inspecting the automated container terminal in Qinzhou, Li Qian called for further improvement of port facilities, increasing the degree of intellectualization of operations, and promoting deep integration of the waterway network with shipping.
During a visit to the mangrove forest ecological reserve in the city of Beihai, Li Qian pointed out that water ecosystems are a crucial component in the creation of the national water network, and called for strengthening measures to protect and restore mangrove and coastal wetland areas. During an inspection of the pumping station, the prime minister emphasized the importance of careful planning and construction of large projects for water transfer and improving water resource distribution models.
Moreover, in connection with the onset of the flood season in the southern region of China, since the Guangxi-Zhuang Autonomous Region, Li Qian demanded to conduct comprehensive inspections to identify potential threats and hidden dangers in order to guarantee the safety of residents and their property.
