The heaviest-duty tow truck in Russia, created in cooperation between PJSC “KAMAZ” and the company “Kuzovostroitel”, was handed over to the Leningrad Region Environmental Police. The special vehicle is built on the chassis of the KAMAZ-65951.
The ceremonial transfer of specialists took place in Saint Petersburg. The event was attended by the general director of JSC “Trade and Finance Company “KAMAZ” Andrey Kozhevnikov, the general director of the company “Kuzovostroitel” Kirill Bliznyukov, and the chairman of the Committee for State Environmental Supervision of the Leningrad Region Ramil Agaev.
Modern road infrastructure increasingly faces the problem of evacuating freight vehicles, heavy road trains, and specialized equipment. Standard tow trucks in such conditions have limitations in load capacity, geometry, and stability, which complicates the work and increases risks. The tow truck on the KAMAZ-65951 chassis, developed by the company “Kuzovostroitel” in cooperation with the leader of Russian truck manufacturing, is designed to solve exactly these tasks.A new vehicle, to be launched on the market in the spring of 2026, is capable of operating with a load mass of up to 60 tons, making it the most heavy-duty tow truck developed in Russia.
The transfer of the tow truck on the high-tech chassis KAMAZ generation K5 to the environmental oversight structure is aimed at improving the efficiency of working with overloaded vehicles and violations in the operation of equipment. The use of a heavy-duty tow truck will reduce evacuation time, increase road safety, and expand the capabilities for working with non-standard equipment.
“We see a steady increase in tasks related to the evacuation of heavy and overloaded equipment. This project, implemented in cooperation with PJSC “KAMAZ”, is the result of engineering work aimed at solving real industry problems.”, – commentedGeneral Director of the company “Kuzovostroitel” Kirill Bliznyuk. The director also explained that the new model is based on the high-tech KAMAZ-65951 four-axle chassis of the latest K5 generation. The choice of this platform for the new tow truck model was dictated by its exceptional technical characteristics.
The full weight of the KAMAZ-65951 vehicle reaches 50 tons, the front axles withstand a load of up to 18 tons, and the rear bogie up to 32 tons. During the development of the tow truck, specialists from “Kuzovostroitel” increased the wheelbase to 6000 mm. This configuration allows for effective load distribution between four axles and ensures stability during the operation of heavy towing equipment. The vehicle is also equipped with a modern KAMAZ R6 diesel engine with a maximum power of 483 hp. The high torque of the 16-speed mechanical gearbox allows towing loads of up to 60 tons.Pneumatic brake system with EBS and electronically controlled parking brake meets modern safety standards. The comfortable cabin is equipped with everything necessary for the driver’s convenient work. The 8×4 wheel formula ensures high passability and versatility of use.
As for the superstructure, the lifting capacity of the main boom is 50 tons, the lifting capacity of the hydraulic jib is 30 tons, the lifting capacity at maximum outreach is 10 tons. This jib is universal, which allows transporting practically any cargo. And the telescopic boom has an outreach of up to five meters and a lifting angle of 44°, which significantly expands operational capabilities.
Special attention was paid during development to load distribution and machine stability. Engineers of the Kuzovostroitel company performed comprehensive calculations, including mass distribution along the axes, ballast design, and optimization of the geometry of the tow trucks. The structure implements a ballast with a mass of 7.5 tons of stepped shape, divided into three parts. This allowed shifting the center of gravity forward, improving the machine’s stability and ensuring safe operation during the evacuation of heavy machinery.
Let’s recall, the new tow truck based on the KAMAZ-65951 chassis was presented to the general public at the end of March at the exhibition organized within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Forum “Ecology of the Big City.” The novelty aroused great interest from visitors and potential consumers. At the moment, this development is the most heavy-duty tow truck created in Russia.
