Saint Petersburg, April 30 /Sinyua/ — The ceremony of raising the naval flag and introducing the new mine countermeasure ship “Polyarny” into the Russian Navy took place on Thursday in Baltiysk. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The new Project 12700 “Aleksandrit” sea minesweeper, built at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard in Saint Petersburg, will serve as part of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation.

“Polyarny” became the 10th minesweeper of Project 12700, included in the composition of the Russian Navy. Another six ships of this project are at the shipyard at various stages of readiness.

The project 12700 minesweepers are designed for searching and destroying mines in the waters of naval bases. During construction, a technology for manufacturing the hull from monolithic fiberglass is used, performed by the method of vacuum infusion, which ensures greater strength and a smaller mass of the ship’s hull. –0–
