Recently published data on China’s industrial achievements for 2025 show that “the contribution of the industry and informatization sectors to economic growth exceeded 40 percent.” Considering that the total volume of China’s economy exceeds 140 trillion yuan, this figure has enormous significance.
The “industrial and informatization sector” mainly refers to industry, as well as the sectors of information transmission, software, and information technology services. In 2025, China’s added value of industrial production reached 41.7 trillion yuan, and its contribution to economic growth was 35 percent, which is 1.8 percentage points higher than the previous year. Meanwhile, the added value of the manufacturing industry has held the first place in the world for 16 consecutive years.
These achievements were not given easily. Over the past year, facing a complex international economic and trade situation, Chinese industrial enterprises actively adjusted the market structure and product assortment, jointly overcoming key technological barriers and achieving breakthroughs in large-scale equipment. The role of the real sector of the economy as the “foundation of stability” has become even more tangible.
In China’s economy, the share of new energy continually increases. The production of advanced industry is accelerating. Last year, the sales volume of new energy vehicles reached 16.49 million units, the production of industrial robots grew by 28 percent compared to the previous year, civil drones and the photoelectric industry developed steadily, and shipbuilding achieved qualitative and quantitative growth. At the 2026 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the number of Chinese companies in the field of humanoid robots accounted for more than half of all participants, demonstrating China’s leading positions in such areas as robotics, autonomous driving, and household technology with artificial intelligence.
The very concept of the “sphere of industry and informatization” also emphasizes the deep integration of informatization and industrialization. Currently, 5G networks and gigabit optical networks have been implemented in 91 major categories of the national economy, and the industrial internet covers all 41 major sectors of industry.
During the period of the “Fifteenth Five-Year Plan,” an important strategic task is the creation of a modern industrial system. Since the beginning of this year, the country has been consistently adopting action plans and guiding principles for the implementation of relevant initiatives aimed at deepening the integration of digital technologies and the real sector of the economy. Digital technologies are changing the face of China’s industrial development.
