Washington, April 29 /Xin Hua/ — In a procedural vote, the US Senate on Tuesday rejected a proposal offered by the Democrats to limit the war powers of President Donald Trump, aimed at preventing the president from initiating military actions against Cuba without the sanction of Congress.
The Senate, in which Republicans prevail, with 51 votes against 47, supported Senator Rick Scott’s objection to the Democrats’ proposal to withdraw the resolution from the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
Susan Collins and Rand Paul were the only Republicans who voted in support of the war powers resolution proposed by the Democrats. Senator John Fetterman was the only Democrat who voted against the resolution.
