UN, April 29 /Xinhua/ — China’s permanent representative to the UN, Fu Zhenwu, on Tuesday called on the parties of the Middle East conflict to strive for the earliest restoration of stability in the region.
Over a certain period, the situation in the Middle East sharply escalated, leading to widespread consequences, seriously undermining regional stability and affecting the global economy and energy security. As noted by Fu Cun, the current situation is at a critical stage of transition from war to peace.
“China strongly urges all parties to seize this opportunity to establish peace, show maximum restraint, demonstrate utmost sincerity, and continue steadfastly promoting political settlement to prevent weakening the momentum of ceasefire and negotiation processes, as well as strive for the earliest restoration of stability in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region,” Fu Cun stated during the open debate of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.
The Palestinian issue has always been at the center of the Middle Eastern problem and should not be pushed to the background under any circumstances, noted the spokesperson.
He called on all interested parties, especially Israel, to fully observe the ceasefire to ensure a comprehensive and lasting cessation of hostilities throughout the entire territory of the Gaza Strip. Fu Cun also emphasized that Israel must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, remove all obstacles to humanitarian access, and ensure the humanitarian organizations can carry out their activities.
