Tbilisi, April 28 /Xinhua/ — An international conference timed to the World Veterinary Day was held on Tuesday in Tbilisi. Representatives from about 20 countries, as well as international organizations and specialized agencies, took part in the event. This was reported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

The forum opening ceremony was conducted by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, David Songulashvili, and the Director-General of the World Organisation for Animal Health, Emmanuel Suberain.

D. Songulashvili emphasized that veterinary medicine plays a key role in the development of agriculture and the provision of public health. In this context, he pointed out the importance of international cooperation and exchange of experience.

E. Subeyran highly appreciated Georgia’s progress in the field of veterinary medicine and noted the strengthening of the country’s cooperation with international organizations.

Panel discussions devoted to global and regional challenges in veterinary medicine took place as part of the conference. At the end of the event, the Tbilisi Communiqué was issued, which reflected Georgia’s initiative for the official recognition of World Veterinary Day and the establishment of a fixed date for its celebration.
