Shanxi, April 28 /Xinhua/ — On Tuesday, the airplane operating flight number EU3055 took off from the international airport “Laining” of Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /PRC, Northwest China/ and arrived in Osh city, Kyrgyzstan, marking the official opening of the direct regular passenger air route Kashgar-Osh. This was reported by the corporation Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. /COMAC/.

Flights on the new Kashgar-Osh air route at both ends will be operated by the C909 aircraft of the Chinese airline Chengdu Airlines on Tuesdays. The flight duration will be about 1 hour.

It is expected that the opening of the new air route will contribute to the further expansion of trade and economic ties and exchanges between Xining and Kyrgyzstan, as well as help the SCO create a “golden corridor” on the Eurasian continent and become a bridgehead of the country’s openness in the western direction.

Before the opening of this direct air route, passengers traveling between Kashgar and Osh mainly used automobile transport or flights with a transit. The travel time by road was approximately 10-12 hours. As for air transport between the two cities, passengers previously had to fly with a transit through Urumqi and Bishkek, and the travel time exceeded 18 hours. The opening of the direct air route will significantly reduce travel time and facilitate trips for passengers between the two cities.

Osh is the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan and an aviation hub connecting China, Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East. The opening of this direct air connection will deepen economic, trade, cultural, and tourist exchanges and will contribute to the high-quality development of the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”.

In the future, Chengdu Airlines will continue to use Kashgar as its main hub and will strive to open even more direct flights connecting Xinjiang with cities in Central Asian countries. -0-
