Washington, April 26 /Xinhua/ — U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday said that he will no longer send delegations for negotiations with Iran.

“If they /the Iranians/ want to talk again, they can come to us or they can call us,” said D. Trump in an interview to the Fox News channel.

“If they agree, we can talk. But we will not send people on an 18-hour trip for a meeting,” the American president emphasized.

D. Trump spoke of great respect for Pakistan, which organized the American-Iranian negotiations in Islamabad. According to him, the Pakistani side will continue to participate in the process.

The American leader once again emphasized that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons. “So if they do, they can call us. But again, they know that it must be in an agreement. It’s very simple: they must not have nuclear weapons. Otherwise, there is no reason for a meeting,” D. Trump pointed out.

As noted in the statement of the Iranian president’s office, published on Sunday morning, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that pressure and hostile actions by the United States undermine trust and hinder progress in resuming negotiations.

He emphasized that Washington cannot conduct negotiations while simultaneously increasing pressure on Iran, and that such actions “destroy the necessary atmosphere” for diplomacy. –0–
