Bangkok, April 24 /Xinhua/ — Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Si Asak Psuangketkeu held the third meeting of the mechanism of consultations at the level of heads of foreign affairs departments of China and Thailand on Friday in Bangkok.

Wan Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, reminded that the current year is the first year of the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan for China’s development (2026-2030), as well as the first year of the work of Thailand’s new government.

As the Chinese diplomat noted, in the context of the complex and ever-changing international situation, the Chinese side is ready, jointly with the Thai side, guided by the strategic consensus of the heads of the two states, to engage a coordinating role of a mechanism of consultations between the foreign ministers of the two countries.

The parties must jointly promote the modernization processes of each of the countries, truly implementing genuine multilateralism, creating a new “golden 50-year period” of Chinese-Thai relations, making a new contribution to the empowerment of the Global South through unity, as well as ensuring peace and stability in the region, Van I. pointed out.

According to the head of the Chinese foreign affairs department, the Chinese side consistently assigns Thailand an important role in its diplomacy with neighboring countries. China intends to remain a reliable strategic partner of Thailand in cooperation, support the new government of this country in its efforts directed towards the development path of the Thai people, corresponding to Thailand’s national conditions, and promote the building of a more stable, prosperous, and sustainable China-Thailand community of shared destiny, stated Wan Yi.

The head of the MID expressed confidence that the Thai side will continue to clearly support the great cause of the peaceful reunification of China.

He indicated that the parties should maintain contacts at a high level, strengthen political trust, increase the alignment of development strategies, and proceed to the development of a new five-year action plan.

It is necessary to activate the fight against transnational crime, completely eradicate such malignant phenomena as gambling and fraud; establish close multilateral interaction and jointly implement four global initiatives, added Van I.

He noted that China consistently advocates for the resolution of interstate disagreements through dialogue, not force. The Chinese side expresses hope that Thailand and Cambodia will consolidate the ceasefire regime, restore bilateral contacts, resolve the border dispute as soon as possible, and maintain a peaceful and stable situation in the region, the Chinese diplomat stated.

Being a close friend of Thailand and Cambodia, China is ready and willing to provide a platform for restoring mutual trust and improving relations between these two countries, assured Wan I.

Sutthasak Phuangketkeow, in turn, stated that the Thai side will, as before, pay increased attention to relations with the PRC, firmly adhere to the One China policy, and strengthen the political foundation of Thai-Chinese ties.

The Thai side is ready to activate contacts at a high level with the Chinese side, deepen comprehensive cooperation in such areas as connectivity, economy and trade, combating online gambling and telecommunications fraud, contributing to the gradual development of building a Thai-Chinese community of shared destiny, added the head of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Silasak Phuangketkeow, the Thai side highly values the four global initiatives proposed by Chairman Xi Jinping and is ready to strengthen multilateral coordination with the Chinese side.

The Thai side expresses gratitude to the Chinese side for active assistance in peaceful negotiations and mediation in resolving the Thai-Cambodian border dispute, counting on the Chinese side to continue playing a constructive role in this matter, added the head of Thailand’s foreign affairs department.

The parties also exchanged views on issues such as cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong Basin and cooperation in East Asia, unanimously agreed to activate coordination and interaction, actively develop cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong Basin version 2.0, in order to bring the construction of a community with a shared future for the countries of the Lancang-Mekong Basin to a new level.
