Beijing, April 25 /Xinhua/ — According to a report published on Saturday by the Xinhua Institute, an analytical center under Xinhua News Agency, new disciplines such as artificial intelligence, big data, and new energy provide international students in China with a broader and more diverse range of academic choices.
The report titled “Education in China: Contribution to Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind” emphasizes the alignment of international educational programs with socio-economic development, which provides students with opportunities to build careers with a strong practical focus.
As noted in the report, having launched in-demand programs focused on leading academic and social progress, Chinese universities have aligned their curricula with the needs of the industry.
Using the decade-long experience accumulated by China in the field of technological innovations, poverty alleviation, and rapid urbanization, Chinese universities have also introduced specialized disciplines such as development economics for developing countries and research on the “Belt and Road” initiative.
The report suggests that the academic landscape has shifted from the model of “education to what is accessible” to the model of “education precisely to what is sought.”
“Engineering education in China taught me to combine the theory of maritime affairs with artificial intelligence and big data analytics,” said Mark Yeo Zhi Yi, a student from Malaysia studying at the School of Marine Science and Technology of Tianjin University, located in the city of Tianjin in northern China.
Mark Yeo Chji Yii, who enrolled in a specialized bachelor’s degree in marine sciences for ASEAN countries, added that the interdisciplinary approach has significantly broadened his professional outlook.
This program is adapted to the needs of the maritime industry of China and ASEAN member states, with an emphasis on the development of marine resources and environmental management. According to the report, such new engineering training programs have successfully trained a large number of specialized professionals.
