The A-289 high-speed highway in the Krasnodar Territory, the start of which was given by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, connected the M-4 “Don” with the “Tavrida” motorway and became part of the high-speed route from Saint Petersburg and Moscow to Sevastopol. Over the past year, 6 million motorists have traveled on it, reported Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

“One of the key directions of road activity is the development of high-speed routes. A good example is the route A-289, almost 120 km long, from Krasnodar to the Crimean bridge, which has become part of the high-speed corridor connecting Saint Petersburg and Moscow with Sevastopol. This road connected the M-4 “Don” through the far western part of Krasnodar with the A-290 Novorossiysk – Kerch route, bypassing populated areas. Thanks to this, a route from Saint Petersburg to Sevastopol was created without a single traffic light over a distance of 2,600 km. Over the past year, motorists have traveled about 525 million kilometers on this route in total.About 6 million motorists have made trips on this road via various routes, and the average daily traffic intensity exceeded 12 thousand vehicle passages,” said Marat Khusnullin.

The A-289 route has allowed to unload the old route passing through the village of Novomyshastovskaya, as well as the towns of Slavyansk-na-Kubani and Temryuk. Thanks to it, it was possible to divert transit traffic from these settlements and reduce the load on the street and road network, while citizens gained the opportunity to reach from one point to another faster and more safely. For example, the journey along it from Krasnodar to the interchange near the Belaya Gora overpass takes no more than one and a half hours.

A year ago, the high-speed highway was entrusted to the trust management of the State Company “Avtodor.” According to the head of the state company Vyacheslav Petushenko, the most popular route among motorists on the A-289 is the entire road in both directions.

“These are sections between the Maryanskaya stanitsa and the town of Slavyansk-na-Kubani, Slavyansk-na-Kubani – Varenikovskaya and the route between the Varenikovskaya stanitsa and the town of Temryuk. The routes have symmetrical flows of traffic. On an annual basis, motorists move approximately in equal numbers in both directions along the road, which confirms the popularity of the route both among residents of the central regions and the coastal areas of Kuban and Crimea. At the same time, traditionally, traffic intensity on the roads increases in the summer months, including on the A-289.”The maximum values on it were reached in August last year, with the peak day falling on August 17. On that day, more than 40 thousand vehicle trips along various routes were recorded on the road. At the same time, the total mileage driven by motorists then amounted to 3.8 million km,” clarified Vyacheslav Petushenko.

A-289 is a four-lane highway that was built by the Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor) and opened at the end of 2024. It includes 10 interchanges with exits to nearby settlements.

For the convenience of motorists moving at night and in conditions of insufficient visibility, lines of external lighting have been installed along the entire route. To improve traffic safety on the A-289, emergency commissioners operate around the clock. During the first year of operation, they made 3,579 trips to provide technical assistance to motorists.
