Beijing, April 23 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday, the Chinese Navy (PLAN) is celebrating its 77th anniversary, having become during this time an important force in maintaining regional and global stability, thanks to its presence and growing potential.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, open days were held at the Navy bases of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in more than 10 cities, during which over 40 ships, actually in service, were open to the general public.
In terms of the number of ships and types presented, today’s open day has surpassed all previous similar events, according to a statement by the Navy.
Visitors can get up close to guided missile destroyers, frigates, and amphibious transport docks, as well as auxiliary ships, including a replenishment ship and a floating hospital. Many of them were involved in corresponding missions, such as escorting vessels in the Gulf of Aden, overseas visits, and joint exercises.
Founded in the same year, the People’s Republic of China, the PLAN Navy, over 77 years have transformed into a modern fleet, possessing a full range of naval military units, as well as conventional and nuclear capabilities.
In just over ten years, three aircraft carriers were built, new strategic nuclear submarines, 10,000-ton class destroyers, amphibious ships, and complex supply vessels for supporting naval operations and ensuring national security appeared.
