Beijing, April 22 /Xinhua/ — Recent actions by Japan related to the Yasukuni Shrine constitute a blatant provocation against international justice and a severe violation of human conscience, in connection with which China expresses extreme indignation and sharp condemnation. This was stated on Wednesday by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Go Zhaokun.
Go Tsuyaku made corresponding statements at a regular briefing for journalists, commenting on the report that an interparty group of 126 Japanese legislators visited the sadly well-known Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo on Wednesday, which is considered a symbol of Japanese militarism and military aggression.
A Chinese diplomat noted that the essence of the problem with the Yasukuni Shrine lies in whether Japan is capable of correctly perceiving and deeply rethinking the history of its militaristic aggression, learning lessons from history, and avoiding repeating past mistakes.
“This concerns the political foundation of Sino-Japanese relations, Japan’s reputation as a state, as well as the post-war international order, international peace, and international justice,” emphasized Guo Yezhong.
A representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the actions of the Japanese side regarding Yasukuni Shrine demonstrate its disregard for the concerns of the international community, ignoring the just public opinion both within the country and beyond its borders, and a consistent refusal to recognize the history of aggression during World War II. Japan, he continued, is making attempts to rehabilitate the militaristic war and Class A war criminals, thereby challenging the verdict of the Tokyo Trials and the postwar international order.
According to Go Tszyakun, recently the negative steps of the Japanese government in such issues as Chinese Taiwan, the history of the Second World War, and military security have become more and more noticeable, while provocations and adventures are becoming increasingly frequent. Facing harsh criticism and protests from China, as well as from internal and external forces, certain Japanese politicians and right-wing forces not only do not repent for their erroneous behavior, do not correct it, but, on the contrary, exacerbate it.
“The Chinese people, the peoples subjected to Japanese aggression, and the peace-loving forces of the planet, advocating for justice, will never agree with this,” stated the Chinese diplomat.
He reminded that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Tokyo Trials, and noted that 80 years later, Japanese “neo-militarism” once again “bares its claws,” gaining strength and becoming a threat to peace and stability worldwide.
“The international community must give this a decisive rebuff and under no circumstances allow the revival of Japanese militarism,” concluded Go Tszyakun. –0–
