Sofia, April 20 /Sina/ — The coalition “Progressive Bulgaria” under the leadership of former Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has gained 44.594 percent of the votes according to the results of the recent parliamentary elections in the country. This is evidenced by the data published on Monday after the counting of 100 percent of the protocols from the precinct election commissions.
According to information on the website of the Central Election Commission /CEC/, the second place was taken by the GERB-SDS coalition (“Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria” and the Union of Democratic Forces) with a result of 13.387% of the votes, followed by the PP-DB bloc (“Continuing the Changes” and “Democratic Bulgaria”), which received 12.618%. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms /DPS/ received 7.12% of the votes, the party “Revival” — 4.257%.
Other parties and coalitions that participated in the elections were unable to overcome the 4 percent threshold, which is necessary for representation in the country’s parliament, which has 240 seats.
After verification and analysis of all CEC protocols, official results, including the distribution of seats in parliament, are expected to be announced by April 23.
Meanwhile, according to the forecast of the distribution of deputy mandates, published on the website of the Dnevnik newspaper, “Progressive Bulgaria” may receive 130 seats, GERB-SDS — 39, PP-DB — 37, DPS — 21, “Revival” — 13.
According to the Constitution of Bulgaria, the newly elected parliament convenes for its first session by the president of the country within a month after the elections. Then the head of state entrusts the parliamentary faction that received the majority of seats to form a government, which must be approved by a simple majority of votes in the parliament.
The recent parliamentary elections became the eighth in Bulgaria in the past five years since the resignation of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s government in December 2025, which occurred against the backdrop of mass protests against his economic policy and the subsequent inability of the parliament to form a new cabinet of ministers. –0–
