Washington, April 19 /Xin Hua/ — American military forces are preparing in the coming days to board Iranian oil tankers and seize commercial vessels in international waters. This was reported on Saturday by The Wall Street Journal citing US officials.
“The U.S. will actively pursue any vessel flying the Iranian flag and any vessel attempting to provide material support to Iran,” said the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces, Dan Keane, on Thursday.
According to him, this step will allow the USA to take control of vessels associated with Iran worldwide, including tankers carrying Iranian oil that are already sailing outside the Persian Gulf, as well as ships transporting weapons intended to support Tehran.
D. Kane said that the operation will be partially conducted by the Indo-Pacific Command of the United States Armed Forces.
This marks a new phase of Washington’s pressure campaign against Tehran, which received from the Donald Trump administration the name “economic fury” and is aimed at maximizing economic pressure on Iran in connection with the fact that the term of the temporary truce between the parties expires next week.
