Beirut, April 19 /Xinhua/ — The leader of the Hezbollah movement, Naim Qassem, said on Saturday that a ceasefire with Israel must mean a complete cessation of aggression, warning of the use of retaliatory measures in case of violations by Israel in southern Lebanon.

“Ceasefire only from one side does not exist,” said N. Kasem in a statement, adding that the militants of the movement “will respond to violations by the aggressor side appropriately.”

He designated five key steps: a complete cessation of hostilities throughout the entire territory of Lebanon, a full withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of detainees, the return of displaced residents, and the restoration of the country with the support of Arab countries and the international community.

“Hezbollah” has not suffered defeat and will continue to strive for the liberation and independence of Lebanon, he added.

N. Kasem also said that the movement is open to a “new page” of cooperation with the Lebanese government, emphasizing readiness to cooperate with state institutions to strengthen national unity and protect sovereignty.

A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect at midnight from Thursday to Friday local time / 21:00 GMT.

However, on Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces stated that in the past 24 hours it struck militants approaching the ‘yellow line,’ which marks the northern boundary of the ‘security zone’ established by Israel in southern Lebanon.
