Beijing, April 17 /Xin Hua/ — China made a stern representation to Japan in connection with the passage of the Japanese destroyer “Ikazuchi” through the Taiwan Strait. This was stated on Friday by the Ministry of Defense of the PRC, calling this action a “deliberate provocation.”
As indicated by the official representative of the department, Zhang Xiaogan, commenting on the journalist’s request about the incident, a Japanese vessel sent an erroneous signal to separatist forces in Taiwan. According to him, this will only further intensify the justified indignation of the Chinese people and will only strengthen the country’s determination to resist provocations.
“We call on the Japanese side to return to the right path, strictly observe the principle of one China and the four Sino-Japanese political documents,” said Zhang Xiaogan.
The official representative of the defense department added that the Chinese armed forces are always kept in a state of heightened combat readiness and are ready to take decisive measures to counter any external interference.
