Haikou, April 18 /Xinhua/ — The 6th China International Consumer Products EXPO (CICPE), which became the first major international event after the launch of the independent customs operations regime throughout the territory of Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP), has attracted a record number of participants from various countries this week.

This year, at CICPE, international products accounted for 65% of the total volume of exhibits, with participation from more than 3,400 brands from over 60 countries and regions, as evidenced by data published during the latest episode of the multimedia discussion program “China Economic Roundtable,” organized by IA Xin Hua.

According to Cizen Zhun, the chief economist of the International Economic Development Administration of Hainan Province, about 70 percent of the sites presented in the additional area of this EXPO in the city of Sanya belonged to international brands.

At CICPE 2026, a purchaser service center was created for the first time, intended to provide participants and purchasers with a full range of services to facilitate the establishment of business contacts at all stages.

“With the help of EXPO, we strive to bring quality products from around the world to China and attract more international brands for their global debut here,” said Czen Zhun.

In addition, local customs authorities have published 16 measures for this EXPO, which simplify the customs clearance of exhibits, provide administrative services, and streamline procedures. An updated VAT refund policy for foreign visitors was also presented.

“Institutional mechanisms supporting CICPE are constantly being improved, which is facilitated by the Hainan PST through deepening reforms,” said Kuan Xianmin, Deputy Head of the Chinese Institute of Reform and Development.

Kuan Xianmin noted that the effectiveness of this ECPO will further increase as Hainan expands its capabilities, adding that the Hainan PST “has enormous development potential and very promising prospects.”

In December 2025, the Hainan Free Trade Port launched an independent customs operation regime throughout the territory of Hainan Island. Over the past 100 days, the total amount exempted from duties amounted to 271 million yuan (approximately 39.5 million USD), and 70,100 new enterprises were created, reported the local customs. -0-
