Bishkek, April 18 /Xin Hua/ — On Friday, in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, an international festival-performance of Chinese poetry recitation “Poems Unite the World” and an exhibition of designer works on the art of Chinese calligraphy were held. More than 600 people from political, educational, artistic, and media circles of the two countries participated in it.
Speaking at the event, the counselor-envoy of the PRC embassy in Kyrgyzstan, Li Hua, noted that today interest in studying the Chinese language in Kyrgyzstan is rapidly growing. More and more young people choose it as a promising field of study. “I am confident that by studying the Chinese language, young friends from Kyrgyzstan will be able not only to gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of China, its socio-economic development features, and modern technologies, but also to open up wide opportunities for professional growth,” Li Hua emphasized.
Vice Mayor of Bishkek Viktoria Mozgacheva stated that the events allow representatives of the younger generations of Kyrgyzstan to better learn about Chinese culture and find answers to their questions of interest. She expressed hope that through such events the peoples of the two countries will be able to share their cultures with each other.
About 90 posters dedicated to the culture of Chinese characters and the history of Chinese poetry were presented as part of the event. A prize quiz on the recitation of Chinese poetry was organized, as well as thematic lectures on new expressions of Chinese characters in the modern era. In addition, teachers and students from Nanjing University of the Arts performed a unique program that combined 10 Chinese characters through folk dances, poetry readings, and traditional music, including “shan” /mountain/, “guan” /pass/, “lu” /road/, and “xue” /snow/, vividly recreating the ancient Silk Road.
“It’s so beautiful here!” — shared the impressions of Raiyan Askarov, a tenth-grader at a Bishkek school, who has been studying Chinese for more than two years. She noted that she really liked the deep cultural atmosphere of the events and expressed hope that even more will be held in the future.
The events were initiated by the Center for International Language Exchanges and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic and jointly organized by Nankai University of Arts, the International University of Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyz National University (KNU), and the Confucius Institute at KNU. –0–
