Peace and security

The UN welcomes steps aimed at stopping hostilities, said UN press secretary Stephan Dujarric at a briefing in New York, commenting on the reports of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

“The United Nations, through its political and peacekeeping missions, continues to support these efforts and strongly calls for the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701,” he said, adding that it is precisely the implementation of this resolution that is the key to a lasting ceasefire and long-term conflict resolution.

Death of medical workers in Lebanon

On Wednesday, the regional office of the UN Human Rights Office reported that four medical workers were killed and several others were injured as a result of attacks on ambulances traveling to the site of an airstrike in Mayfadoun, Lebanon.

The department reminds that medical personnel must always remain protected.

Violence only exacerbates the chaos and deprives the population of access to medical care, emphasized the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Hanan Bale.

According to WHO data, since the beginning of the escalation between Israel and Hezbollah as a result of attacks on medical facilities in Lebanon, 88 people have already died. Fifteen hospitals and seven primary healthcare centers have been damaged.
