Washington, April 15 /Xinhua/ — The war between the United States and Israel with Iran is “very close to completion.” This was stated on Wednesday morning by US President Donald Trump.
In an interview with the Fox Business channel, D. Trump also indicated that American strikes will continue as long as necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. At the same time, he again threatened strikes on civilian infrastructure.
“We could have taken out all the bridges in an hour. We could have taken out all the power plants in an hour,” said the American president. “But we are not going to do that.”
Washington and Tehran are expected to resume negotiations as early as April 16, after talks held on April 11 in Pakistan reached an impasse. American media reported that the parties have reached a “principled agreement” to extend the two-week ceasefire, which expires on April 22, to allow more time for diplomatic efforts.
However, as stated by a high-ranking American official to CNN, the White House has not yet officially agreed to the extension of the ceasefire.
“Contacts between the USA and Iran to conclude a deal continue,” he noted.
