Washington, April 15 /Sin Hua/ — A US Navy destroyer intercepted and redirected a cargo ship flying the Iranian flag in the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported on Wednesday by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
“Yesterday, a cargo ship under the Iranian flag attempted to bypass the US blockade, leaving the port of Bandar Abbas, exiting the Strait of Hormuz, and proceeding along the Iranian coast,” says a statement from the command on the social network X. The missile destroyer USS Spruance successfully intercepted the ship, which turned back to Iran.
At the moment, 10 vessels have been turned back. Since the US maritime blockade was imposed on Monday, not a single ship has been able to pass through the strait, CENTCOM reported.
American forces completely blocked Iran’s maritime trade in less than 36 hours from the moment the blockade was imposed. This was announced on Tuesday by CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper.
