Ankara, April 15 /Sina/ — The number of people killed as a result of the shooting on Wednesday at one of the schools in the city of Kahramanmaraş in southern Turkey has risen to nine, including eight students. This was reported by a number of media outlets citing the Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi.

Earlier the same day, the governor of Kahramanmaraş province, Mükerrrem Ünlüer, stated that at least four people died and 20 were injured as a result of the incident that occurred around 13:30 local time / 10:30 Greenwich Mean Time at the ‘Ayser Çalık’ secondary school in the Onikişubat district. An eighth-grade student opened fire in two classrooms.

According to the latest data from the local TV channel NTV, the attacker committed suicide by shooting himself during the chaos.

The governor informed journalists at the scene that the assailant, whose target was fifth-grade students, carried out the attack while having five units of firearms and seven magazines with him.

According to information from a number of media outlets, the weapon used by him presumably belonged to his father Ugur Mersinli, a former police officer who is currently detained.
