Minsk, April 16 /Xin Hua/ — The Belarusian parliament is considering parliamentary diplomacy as one of the key tools for reducing international tension and strengthening trust. This was reported by Sergey Rachkov, chairman of the permanent commission of the House of Representatives /lower house of parliament/ of Belarus on international affairs, speaking at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security of the Interparliamentary Assembly. Relevant information was published by the press service of the House of Representatives of Belarus on Thursday.

At the meeting, there was a discussion of the draft resolution “The role of parliaments in creating reliable mechanisms for post-conflict settlement and the restoration of just and lasting peace.” The document is planned to be adopted at the 152nd Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union.

“The best strategy in dealing with conflicts is their non-admission and prevention,” noted S. Rachkov. He referred to the words of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, about the fact that the complex task of preventing wars and armed conflicts should be solved by people of goodwill across all countries and on all continents.

“Today, when the architecture of global security is facing unprecedented challenges, these words are more relevant and obvious than ever before,” emphasized the parliamentarian and added that the role of legislators in maintaining peace becomes paramount.

“The Belarusian Parliament considers parliamentary diplomacy as one of the key instruments for reducing international tensions and strengthening trust,” stated S. Rachkov.

“All parliamentary diplomacy tools — from bilateral meetings to large international conferences, from legislative experience exchanges to joint monitoring missions — must be engaged to achieve lasting peace,” he stated.
