Beijing, April 15 /Xinhua/ — Under the guise of “defense” and “counterstrike,” the Japanese side is activating the deployment of missiles and a number of other offensive weapons in the area bordering China, which effectively turns it into a forward post of military confrontation, threatening peace and stability in the region. This was stated on Wednesday by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Geng Shuang.

Go Czyakun made an appropriate statement at a regular briefing for journalists, commenting on reports that at the meeting held on April 13 with Japan’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, the head of the administration of the Yonaguni village in Okinawa Prefecture approved the deployment of anti-aircraft missile units on the island of Yonaguni.

As noted by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese side expresses serious concern in connection with these trends. According to him, ultra-right forces in Japan are actively facilitating the transformation of Japanese policy in the field of security towards offensive, expansionist, and dangerous rails far beyond the framework of “self-defense” and “exclusively defensive policy,” which becomes a mockery of Japan’s claim to be called a “peaceful country.”

“We drew attention to the fact that local residents, guided by bitter historical memory, are universally concerned that they themselves may be drawn into a suicidal war and become ‘cannon fodder.’ Inside Japan, numerous dissenting voices also sound,” stated Go Tszyakun.

He recalled that in their time the Japanese militarist forces unleashed a barbaric war that brought not only great suffering to the world, but also severe disasters to the Japanese people themselves. As the Chinese diplomat pointed out, ignoring public opinion and pursuing a policy of military expansion will only lead to a repetition of past mistakes.

“We call on the Japanese side to deeply reconsider the history of militaristic aggression, strictly fulfill their obligations in the military and security spheres, and show caution in statements and actions. The international community must be extremely vigilant and decisively suppress tendencies of accelerated remilitarization and ‘neo-militarism’ in Japan,” emphasized Guo Qiangkun. –0–
