The team of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Peter the Great won the qualifying round of the XIV season of the international engineering championship CASE-IN in the direction of “Heat Power Engineering”.
The competition brings together the strongest students from all over the country. This year, the competition was especially intense. Participants had to not only propose an engineering solution but also demonstrate systematic thinking, the ability to work with real production tasks, and take into account the economic conditions of modern energy.
It was precisely this approach that allowed the team of students from the Institute of Energy to become leaders. The winners included graduate student from VSHaITE Mark Mironchuk, VSHaITE students Georgy Kondratov, Elina Muametova, and student of PIS “Digital Engineering” Ivan Livertsev.
At the center of the work is the development of a digital model of a power unit with a T-100/120-130-3 turbine. The project turned out to be maximally close to real operating conditions.
The specialists thoroughly developed the thermological scheme of the power unit, including all key and auxiliary systems. They analyzed a wide range of off-design and transitional operating modes, forming the operational characteristics of the unit. They also carried out a techno-economic justification for the shutdown of the high-pressure heater group (HPH), taking into account the functioning of the power unit in the wholesale electricity and capacity market (WECM).
Such an approach allowed not only to increase the accuracy of modeling, but also to propose solutions that can be applied in practice to improve the efficiency and flexibility of power units.
We initially aimed at the practical value of the project. We wanted to demonstrate not just calculations, but a tool that can be used in the actual operation of power units. Victory is the result of great teamwork and strong preparation.
,”— emphasized the team captain Mark Mironchuk.”
The CASE-IN Championship is held with the support of the presidential platform “Russia — the Land of Opportunity” and is one of the main venues for the development of young specialists in the fuel and energy sector. According to the results of last year, SPbPU took first place in the ranking of the best universities for power engineering according to CASE-IN, confirming its status as one of the leaders in engineering education in the country.
The victory of the “Heat’rye” team became a logical continuation of this trend and yet another proof of the high level of training of the university students.
Ahead of the team is the semi-final of the championship, where they will compete with the best representatives of the country’s leading technical universities.
