This year, the student basketball teams tournament of Saint Petersburg solemnly celebrated its first anniversary — ten years. Over this time, the competition has turned into one of the key sporting events for the city’s student youth.

This year, 17 teams participated in the tournament, with a total of about 200 members of student squads from across St. Petersburg. The qualifying stage was held at the sports club “Griffon” and turned into a real marathon: nearly 13 hours of intense competition, dozens of matches, hundreds of throws, and an incredible amount of emotions. Each team fought for the right to advance to the playoffs, demonstrating not only physical fitness but also the will to win.

A special pride for Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University was the successful performance of its teams: among the prize-winners were SPO “Sozvezdie”, SSO “Astra”, SSO “Iskra”, and SSO “Plamya”. However, the absolute victor of the tournament was the team SSO “Borshch” from the headquarters of the student squads of the Polytechnic.

Special recognition was given to the captain of “BORSCH” — Yadulla Ragimov, who was awarded the title “Best Player of the Tournament.” His effectiveness and leadership qualities did not go unnoticed by either the referees or the fans.

In addition to the main competition, spectators and participants enjoyed a spectacular trick shot contest. The winner was Nikita Sokol from the “Provorny” conductors’ squad. Nikita’s precise and confident long-distance shots caused a storm of applause from the audience.

Interest in sporting events of student teams grows every year. The number of new teams increases, the level of player training rises, and the organization and refereeing improve. Participants begin preparing for the tournament several months in advance: they hold regular training sessions, work out tactics, and study opponents. For the organizers, this level of involvement is the main motivation. They strive to make the tournament bigger, more interesting, and more spectacular every year.
