Beijing, April 15 /Xinhua/ — Under the guise of “defense” and “counterstrike,” the Japanese side is activating the deployment of missiles and a range of other offensive weapons in the area adjacent to China, which in fact turns it into a military confrontation outpost, threatening peace and stability in the region. This was stated on Wednesday by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Go Xiakun.
Go Uzyakun made an appropriate statement at a regular briefing for journalists, commenting on reports that at the meeting held on April 13 with the Japanese Minister of Defense Shinjiro Koizumi, the head of the administration of the Yonaguni village in Okinawa Prefecture approved the deployment of anti-air missile units on the island of Yonaguni.
As noted by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese side expresses serious concern regarding these trends. According to him, the far-right forces in Japan are actively promoting the shift of Japanese security policy towards offensive, expansionist, and dangerous rails far beyond the framework of “self-defense” and “exclusively defensive policy,” which makes a mockery of Japan’s claim to be a “peaceful country.”
“We drew attention to the fact that local residents, guided by bitter historical memory, are universally concerned that they could be drawn into a deadly war and turned into “cannon fodder.” Within Japan, numerous dissenting voices also resonate,” stated Go Tsyakyun.
He reminded that in its time, the Japanese militarist forces unleashed a barbaric war that brought not only enormous suffering to the world but also severe hardships to the Japanese people themselves. As the Chinese diplomat pointed out, ignoring public opinion and pursuing a course of military expansion will only lead to the repetition of past mistakes.
“We call on the Japanese side to deeply reconsider the history of militaristic aggression, strictly fulfill their obligations in the military and security spheres, exercise caution in statements and actions. The international community must be extremely vigilant and decisively curb the tendencies of accelerated remilitarization and ‘neo-militarism’ in Japan,” emphasized Guo Cequn.
