Beijing, April 14 /Xin Hua/ — The Foreign Ministers of China and Russia on Tuesday discussed preparations for a meeting of the heads of the two states this year, as well as conducted an in-depth exchange of views on international and regional issues of mutual interest, including the American-Iranian conflict, the situation in the Asia-Pacific region (APR), and the crisis in Ukraine.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, during which he stated that the current international situation is characterized by strong turbulence, the harm of unilateral hegemony is increasing, the system of global governance is undergoing deep adjustments, and the fate of the world and the development of humanity are facing serious challenges.

Wan Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, noted that under the conditions of a complex and changing external environment, Sino-Russian relations, thanks to the personal care and strategic leadership of the heads of the two states, maintain stability, and cooperation in various fields remains energetic and stable.

This year, Van I reminded us that it is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese-Russian relations of partnership and strategic interaction, and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the PRC and the Russian Federation. He added that this year is also the first year of the implementation of the 15th five-year plan in China.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that China and Russia should implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries into reality, and elevate bilateral relations to an all-encompassing partnership and strategic interaction, as well as mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields to a higher level of development.

According to Van I, the parties need to strengthen cooperation within the framework of multilateral structures, such as the UN, use the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization /SCO/ to implement the consensus reached at the SCO summit in Tianjin, and support Kyrgyzstan in successfully conducting the organization’s summit this year.

As indicated by the Chinese diplomat, the two countries must jointly support the dynamics of cohesion among BRICS countries and protect the lawful rights and interests of Global South countries.

Van I called on both sides to continue strategic cooperation on key international and regional issues, to practically implement multilateralism and international morality, and to jointly facilitate the process of forming a multipolar world.

S. Lavrov, for his part, stated that Russia is ready to support close exchanges with China at a high level, deepen practical cooperation, and seek mutual benefit and a win-win outcome.

The Russian diplomat noted that currently the international situation is facing serious challenges, some countries are trying to form “narrow circles” to contain Russia and the SCO.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the parties to properly coordinate a series of global initiatives put forward by the Chairman of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, with the concept of the Greater Eurasian Partnership and Eurasian Security Architecture proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, to support coordination and interaction on multilateral platforms and in international and regional affairs, to protect their national interests and jointly defend the security and stability of the international system.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties jointly signed a consultation plan between the foreign policy departments of the two countries for 2026. –0–
