Beijing, April 13 /Xinhua/ — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday that the most urgent task at present is to make every effort to prevent the resumption of military actions in the Middle East and to preserve the hard-won ceasefire.
Van Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, made a corresponding statement during a telephone conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
M. I. Dar provided detailed information to Van I about the indirect efforts of the Pakistani side in organizing negotiations between Iran and the USA, thanked the Chinese side for its efforts to promote peace, and expressed readiness for close communication and interaction with the PRC in order to play an active role in achieving peace in the region.
Van I once again stated China’s fundamental position and highly appreciated the fact that Pakistan contributed to the achievement of the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran and the organization of negotiations in Islamabad, thereby acting as a fair and balanced mediator.
The Chinese diplomat stated that the current ceasefire is quite fragile, and the situation in the region is at a critical turning point.
The international community should continue to intensify efforts to facilitate negotiations and reconciliation, clearly and unequivocally opposing any actions that undermine the ceasefire regime and lead to an escalation of the confrontation, Van I. indicated.
He noted that the five-point initiative on the restoration of peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East, put forward by China and Pakistan, reflects the consensus of the international community on promoting a peaceful settlement and can still serve as a guideline for efforts aimed at resolving the existing problem.
The Chinese side welcomes a more significant role of the Pakistani side in promoting peace in the region and expresses readiness, together with the rest of the international community, including Pakistan, to continue making a positive contribution to the early restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East, added the head of the Chinese foreign affairs department. –0–
