Bologna /Italy/, April 13 /China News/ — Chinese illustrator Cai Gao was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Award 2026 on Monday. This was announced at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy.
The results were announced by Sherin Kreidi, the chairperson of the jury of the award, at the annual press conference of the International Board on Children’s and Young People’s Literature, held during the fair.
As Sh. Kreydi, correspondent of Xinhua, said, Cai Guo’s works are distinguished by unsurpassed mastery, artistic expressiveness, and emotional depth. “Her view of the world is beautiful,” emphasized the jury chairman.
Cai Gao became the first Chinese illustrator to receive the H. C. Andersen Award — the highest international award for children’s writers and illustrator-artists of children’s literature. In 2016, Chinese author Cao Wenxuan became the first Chinese laureate of the award in the writer category. –0–
