Specialists from the Tyumen Scientific Institute “Rosneft” together with Tyumen State University have developed a method for evaluating gel compositions to increase the oil recovery of reservoirs.
The essence of the innovation lies in the visual study of particle behavior in gel on a microchip — a plate on which a pore space structure of an oil reservoir is created using a high-precision 3D photopolymer printing method. In this way, scientists obtain detailed information about the mechanism of gel particle filtration at the pore scale.
Microchip studies allow testing of a large number of agents for injection into formations in a short time, determining the best compositions for specific geological conditions. The application of microfluidic studies will facilitate the accelerated industrial implementation of new compositions and increase the efficiency of methods used to enhance oil recovery.
In addition to research activities, the Tyumen scientific institute “Rosneft” jointly with the partner university carries out professional personnel training. Since 2024, there has been a basic department “Subsurface physics” operating at Tyumen State University. Under the guidance of practicing experts from the scientific institute, master’s students master the fundamentals of oil and gas business, mathematical modeling of hydrocarbon production processes, and work with specialized software, including corporate software.
Development of technological potential is one of the key elements of the corporate strategy “Rosneft-2030.” The company prioritizes innovation activities, defining technological leadership as a key factor in competitiveness in the oil market.
