New York, April 11 /Xinhua/ — The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Saturday began creating conditions for the clearance of the Strait of Hormuz, while two US Navy guided-missile destroyers were conducting operations. CENTCOM reported this on social media.

In a social media post, the agency reported that the destroyers USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy passed through the Strait of Hormuz and operated in the Persian Gulf as part of a broader mission to ensure the complete clearance of the strait from naval mines, previously laid by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.

“Today we have begun the process of creating a new route and will soon share this safe route with the maritime industry to stimulate free trade flow,” said CENTCOM chief Brad Cooper.

As noted, in the coming days, additional US forces, including underwater drones, will join the efforts for demining.

However, Iranian media reported that no US vessel has yet crossed the Strait of Hormuz, and the American destroyer turned back after a warning from Iran. –0–
