Beirut, April 9 /Xinhua/ — Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced on Wednesday that April 9 would be a national day of mourning in memory of the victims of the Israeli attacks aimed against hundreds of civilians.

According to the prime minister’s order, on this day all government institutions, organizations, and municipalities will be closed, national flags will be lowered, and radio and television broadcasts will be adjusted.

N. Salam added that he supports contacts with Arab leaders and international partners in order to activate Lebanon’s political and diplomatic efforts with the aim of stopping Israeli attacks.

According to the latest data from the Lebanese Civil Defense Service, as a result of the Israeli strike carried out on Wednesday in Lebanese territory, at least 254 people were killed, and another 1165 were injured. The most heavily affected were the densely populated areas of the Lebanese capital — Beirut.
