The diplomat’s visit to the Kenyan capital followed his recent talks with the Chairman of the Sudan Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and meetings with government representatives in Khartoum. All parties that Haavisto met during his trip expressed their willingness to cooperate with the United Nations and its envoy.In the past, Haavisto also visited Cairo, where he held talks with Egyptian officials, representatives of the League of Arab States, and members of the Sudanese diaspora.

The reform of the United Nations organizational system within the framework of the “UN-80” initiative has entered a new phase – from “diagnosing” problems to practical changes.This was stated by the Chairwoman of the General Assembly Annalena Baerbock, speaking at an informal meeting of the General Assembly in New York on Monday. According to her, an important step was the adoption last week of a key resolution on the creation, implementation, and review of mandates. Over more than 80 years of the UN’s existence, more than 40,000 mandates have been created, with some becoming outdated, duplicated, or unused. Burbock also reminded that in the near future it is planned to appoint two co-chairs of the Special Working Group on the review.
