Moscow, April 8 /Sina/ — The Kremlin has welcomed the news of a ceasefire between the USA and Iran with satisfaction and greets the decision not to continue down the path of armed escalation. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, at a briefing on Wednesday.
“Against the backdrop of yesterday’s rather harsh statements from various sides, which caused considerable emotions worldwide, we, of course, gladly received this news about the ceasefire and welcome the decision not to continue further down the path of armed escalation. Especially, not to strike at peaceful targets, at Iran’s economic facilities. We consider this very important,” he said.
D. Peskov recalled that Russia from the very beginning spoke about the inevitability of an early de-escalation in the Middle East through three tracks of political-diplomatic contacts. According to him, the Kremlin expects that the USA and Iran will be able to defend their interests at the negotiation table.
“We hope that, according to the media, direct contacts will take place in the coming days between the Iranian and American delegations, which will allow further peaceful discussion. And each side will be able to defend its interests not through armed intervention, but at the negotiating table,” the press secretary noted. –0–
