A new season of the public projects competition “Faces of the District” has begun in Moscow. Every year, it brings together initiatives useful for the residents of the capital — from creative workshops for children and sports events to yard improvements, as well as volunteer and charitable campaigns. Anyone aged 18 and older who has an idea or a ready project can participate. Applications are accepted on the websitelitsarayon.moscowuntil 31 May.
“This year, we scaled up the competition, added new categories — for non-profit organizations, socially responsible businesses, and youth industry councils,” she noted
Marina Prozorova, Deputy Head of the Capital Department of Territorial Executive Authorities.
Each nomination includes various directions, including family values and communities, ecology, urban planning and tourism, healthcare and inclusivity, sports, arts and creativity, personal development, education, and media.
According to Marina Prozorova, from this year they also decided to introduce a separate direction, such as patriotic volunteering and humanitarian aid. These categories have gained increasing popularity since the moment the competition was held: last year, the number of initiatives increased 11 times compared to 2020.
Application submission and project development
Throughout the entire duration of the competition, Muscovites submitted about five thousand applications, and 250 projects received support at the city level.
“Over the course of six years, the number of participants has steadily increased, with applications coming from residents across the entire capital. According to last year’s results, the most active were the Central, South-Eastern, and South-Western districts,” shared Evgeny Andrienko, director of the City Center for Professional and Career Development.
After registration, participants need to complete an online test and present their ideas to the expert commission. Then they gain access to the educational program, which consists of networking sessions, master classes, trainings, lectures, case championships, and team-building events. The jury will evaluate the development of initiatives, their benefits for citizens, the activity of participants, and the events they will hold at the district and city venues. The authors of the best projects will receive informational, mentoring, resource, and educational support from the city.
Outside the capital
Some local projects have already developed at the federal level. In particular, this is the “Ded Moroz visits homes” campaign, during which volunteers dressed as Ded Moroz and Snegurochka congratulate children, hospital patients, and orphans with the New Year. Thanks to the competition, the initiative has gone beyond the capital and delights residents of other cities in Russia.
The “Street Name” project, implemented in the format of an intellectual quiz and games, acquaints participants with heroes after whom streets are named — scientists, cultural figures, and artists. Currently, the project is known not only in the capital but also in Tula, Kaluga, Tver, Tambov, Saint Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, and Kaliningrad.
The patriotic festival “Victory Day” is already being held in more than 15 cities across the country. Through musical compositions and choreographic performances, it acquaints the younger generation with history and tells about the significance of the Great Patriotic War.
At the beginning of the new season of the “Faces of the District” contest, a press conference was held at the site of the international information agency “Russia Today.” In addition to Marina Prozorova and Evgeny Andrienko, the press conference was attended by the People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Oleshko, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Evgeny Popov, and advisor to the rector of the National Research University “Higher School of Economics,” journalist Oleg Leonov.
The “Faces of the District” contest has been held since 2020 and contributes to the development of the Mayor of Moscow’s program“My District”. It is organized by the Agency for Public Projects under the auspices of the ‘Territory of Opportunities’ ecosystem of the capitalDepartment of Territorial Executive Authorities.
The “Territory of Opportunities” ecosystem unites tens of thousands of active Muscovites who participate in the city’s political and cultural life, implement socially significant initiatives, help residents solve local issues in their neighborhoods, and also develop professional skills and learn from leading experts.
