Beijing, April 7 /Xinhua/ – China is seriously concerned about the Japanese government’s plan to review the “three principles of transfer of defense equipment and technology.” This was stated on Tuesday by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning.

“We urge the Japanese side to deeply rethink its history of militarism and aggression, strictly fulfill its obligations, and act prudently in the field of security and military sphere, avoiding further movement down the wrong path,” said the Chinese diplomat at a regular briefing for journalists.

As reported, the Japanese government plans to review this month the procedure for implementing the “three principles on the transfer of defense equipment and technology” to ease restrictions on arms exports.

“The Chinese side expresses serious concern about this connection,” Mao Ning said. According to her, many international scholars and sensible representatives of Japanese society are deeply worried about such trends, considering them a fundamental turning point in Japan’s post-war policy in the field of arms export, and seriously violating the provisions of such binding international legal documents as the Cairo and Potsdam Declarations and the Act of Japan’s Capitulation.

These steps, the Chinese diplomat continued, also seriously violate the Constitution of Japan and its internal regulatory acts, undermining the institutional guarantees created after the Second World War to prevent the revival of Japanese militarism.

Mao Ning noted that, according to a survey previously conducted by the Japanese government, the majority of Japanese citizens oppose the easing of restrictions on arms exports.

As the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated, various signs testify that Japanese right-wing forces are actively facilitating the translation of security policies into offensive and expansionist tracks. The accelerated remilitarization of Japan is a fact and reality, supported by a specific roadmap and actions, creating a threat to peace and stability in the region, emphasized the Chinese diplomat.

“The international community must demonstrate increased vigilance and decisively prevent reckless steps by Japan towards remilitarization,” Mao Ning added.
