China Experiences Active Growth in Consumption During Qingming Festival Holiday

Beijing, April 6 /Xin Hua/ — During the three-day Qingming Festival in China, there was an active increase in consumption. Simultaneously, a tourism boom was observed, facilitated by the coincidence of the holiday days with spring vacations for primary and middle school students in many regions of the country.

During the holiday from April 4 to 6, the average daily volume of sales of key retail and public catering enterprises, activities monitored by the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, increased by 2.4% year-on-year.

According to the ministry’s data, the volume of consumption on major online platforms providing hotel accommodation services increased by 2.6% year-on-year, while the number of intercity trips grew by 15.1%.

At the same time, the number of car rental orders on holidays increased by approximately 40% year over year, which was associated with a significant growth in the number of family trips.

During the holiday period, a noticeable increase in revenue from online sales of intellectual devices was also noted, including smart glasses, smart watches, smart bracelets, and intelligent glucometers.

The Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, fell on April 5 this year. It is a traditional Chinese festival during which it is customary to honor the memory of the deceased and pay tribute to ancestors. On this occasion, the holiday also allows people to take a little more time off from work and study, dedicating time to active rest and visiting attractions.

According to estimates, during the holiday period, 845.38 million passenger trips were made across China, which is 6 percent more in annual terms. According to the country’s transport authorities, the average daily number of trips during these days reached 281.79 million.
