Tbilisi, April 6 /Xin Hua/ — Azerbaijan remains one of Georgia’s largest trading partners. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Monday at a joint press conference with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, following the results of their bilateral meeting.
I. Kobalidze noted that expanding cooperation between the countries of the South Caucasus opens new prospects for the region against the backdrop of current global political changes. “We are observing global political changes, and these changes further increase the significance of the Middle Corridor, including the Black Sea and the South Caucasus, as a strategic space,” he emphasized.
The Georgian leader stated that Georgia and Azerbaijan, as bridges connecting Asia and Europe, play a key role in ensuring transport accessibility. In this context, he emphasized the special importance of developing and modernizing transport and logistics infrastructure.
For his part, I. Aliyev noted that the volume of Azerbaijan’s investments in the Georgian economy has reached 3.6 billion US dollars, and new opportunities for expanding investment cooperation are being considered, including joint projects in third countries.
Speaking about energy cooperation, I. Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan has been a reliable partner in the field of energy security for many years. “Today, our natural gas is exported to 16 countries, while the delivery routes pass through the territory of Georgia,” he noted.
