Saint Petersburg, April 2 /Sinhua/ — Participants of the Russian International Transport and Logistics Forum, held in Saint Petersburg, called for the formation of a new logistics system based on the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor (TATC), connecting Europe and Asia.
On Thursday, a session took place at the forum on the topic “SMP / Northern Sea Route / and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor: formation of a new logistical axis of Russia.” At the session, the head of the RF President’s Directorate for National Maritime Policy Sergey Vasiluk stated that the TTK is a project that includes not only maritime but also railway, automobile, and inland water routes from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok. The project involves the development of ports, railways, energy, extraction, and processing of resources.TTK, as a system of routes, includes SMP, internal waterways, and infrastructure aimed at the development of the Arctic, the Far East, and international transport. As noted by S. Vasrukov, a large part of the project will be implemented through private investments and concession mechanisms.
According to the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Aleksandr Poshivay, in the coming years the Ministry of Transport will prioritize the development of port infrastructure, inland waterways, and ensuring the safety of navigation. “Multimodal logistics complexes and emergency rescue infrastructure are being developed. We plan to develop ports within the framework of the transport corridor, increasing their capacity by approximately 70 million tons,” clarified A. Poshivay.
The special representative of the state corporation “Rosatom” on Arctic development, Vladimir Panov, presented the vision of the NSR’s role in the modern global economic and geopolitical context. He emphasized that the NSR is steadily increasing cargo flow and confirming its competitive advantages in distance and time compared to southern sea routes.
The International Transport and Logistics Forum will be held for the first time in Saint Petersburg and will last from April 1 to 3. According to the organizers, about 5,000 people from more than 80 countries and regions will participate in it. –0–
