Baku, April 2 /Xin Hua/ — A symposium dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Azerbaijan was held on Wednesday in the Azerbaijani capital. Experts and scholars from Azerbaijan discussed the history of the development of Chinese-Azerbaijani relations over the past 34 years, as well as cooperation between the two countries in the fields of diplomacy, economy, culture, education, and other areas.
The Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Lu Mei, noted that the economies of China and Azerbaijan complement each other, and both countries are deepening comprehensive practical cooperation within the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative.
According to her, China has become the largest source of imports for Azerbaijan and the third most significant trading partner. The peoples of both countries show unprecedented interest in each other and in learning each other’s cultures. The study of the Chinese language in Azerbaijan continues to gain momentum, and the unique charm of Azerbaijan attracts more and more Chinese tourists.
The rector of the Azerbaijani University of Languages, Kamal Abdulla, highly appreciated the growing role of Chinese at the international arena. As he noted, interest and sympathy towards China among the youth of Azerbaijan are increasing. At the Azerbaijani University of Languages, hundreds of students and teachers wish to study the rich cultural heritage of China.
The head of the political scientists’ club “South Caucasus” Ilgar Velizade stated that relations between Azerbaijan and China have been developing rapidly in recent years, and such events as the current symposium play an important role in spreading objective information about China in Azerbaijan.
As emphasized by the Azerbaijani expert, director of the Center for the Study of Global Initiatives, Development, and Culture of China Emin Gasimov, the four global initiatives put forward by China have enormous significance for the protection of peace and stability worldwide, as well as for the development of human civilization and deserve deep study.
The symposium was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Baku together with the Azerbaijan University of Languages.
