New Delhi, July 6 /Xinhua/ — At least 13 people have died and another 10 have been injured in the past 48 hours due to landslides and floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in certain parts of Maharashtra state in western India, with the disaster also causing widespread destruction. This was reported by officials on Monday.
The Minister for Disaster Management of the state, Girish Mahajan, stated on Monday that 13 people became victims of rain-related incidents following record rainfall that struck the city of Mumbai and the neighboring districts of Palghar and Raigad.
“The Mankhurd area in Mumbai suffered the most, where six people died and one was injured when a building collapsed,” he said.
Heavy rains and landslides also seriously affected train and automobile traffic throughout the state. –0–
