Beijing, July 6 /Xinhua/ — China calls on the United States to end the blockade, threats, and pressure against Cuba. The Chinese side firmly supports Cuba in defending its national sovereignty and opposing external interference. This was stated on Monday by Mao Ning, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC.
Mao Ning made the corresponding statements during a regular briefing for journalists, commenting on the recent warnings by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel that the consequences of the US blockade of Cuba have reached a “critical level” and pose a threat of “genocide,” for which he called for a special session of the UN General Assembly on July 7 on this issue.
According to an official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, more than 60 years of complete blockade and illegal sanctions imposed by the United States on Cuba have caused immense suffering to the Cuban people. Recently, the American side has once again tightened the blockade regime and sanction restrictions, which has dealt a serious blow to the basic living conditions of the Cuban population and attracted close attention from the international community.
The Chinese diplomat emphasized that the PRC consistently opposes illegal unilateral sanctions that lack international legal basis and calls for an end to infringements on the Cuban people’s rights to life and development.
Stating that the Chinese side firmly supports Cuba in defending national sovereignty and countering external interference, Mao Ning added that China intends to uphold international integrity and justice together with the entire international community. –0–
