Moscow, July 5 /Xinhua/ — Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, emphasized the preference for a political and diplomatic resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, taking into account Russia’s fundamental approaches. This was stated on Sunday at a briefing by the Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

As he reported, the conversation between V. Putin and D. Trump took place at the initiative of the American side.

During the conversation, V. Putin outlined to the American leader the real situation on the battlefield, where Russian fighters are advancing along the entire line of contact, the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation reported.

“The American president once again confirmed his readiness to assist in the earliest cessation of hostilities and the search for peaceful solutions to overcome the crisis. His special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will continue their mediation efforts and will be ready to come to Moscow at a convenient time,” Yuri Ushakov told journalists.

“Touching on the situation regarding Iran, V. Putin expressed hope that the negotiation process based on the memorandum of understanding between the USA and Iran would make it possible to find mutually acceptable long-term solutions on key settlement issues,” noted the presidential aide.

“Our readiness to provide practical assistance to efforts aimed at de-escalation and stabilization of the situation in the region has been confirmed. Donald Trump, in turn, thanked the Russian side for their measured position and constructive proposals,” added Y. Ushakov. –0–
