The Far Eastern Federal District is the largest in Russia, and its spatial development is one of the strategic priorities of the states. It contains colossal natural resources, important enterprises operate here, ensuring the country’s economic security. An integral part of this development is the formation of a modern urban environment. Over the past year, within the framework of the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” 524 territories were improved in the Far Eastern Federal District. This was reported by Deputy Chairman Marat Khusnullin.
“Under the President’s directive, a systematic effort is underway to develop the subjects of the Far Eastern Federal District. The implementation of the national program for the development of the Far East and national projects makes the macroregion increasingly attractive for living: here, alongside large industrial facilities, housing, hospitals, schools are being built, tourism and education are being developed. Special attention is paid to the formation of a comfortable urban environment. Since 2019, 6,043 territories have been landscaped in the Far Eastern Federal District: embankments, central squares, parks, and public gardens.Out of 524 territories – by 2025 within the framework of the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” – said Marat Khusnullin.
One example of landscaping in harsh climatic conditions is the “Molodezhny” park in Gubkinsky (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug). Here, frost-resistant coatings and energy-efficient lighting have been used. The architectural concept combines national mythology and motifs of the North: art objects resemble ice blocks, the northern lights, and chums, and the center of the space is a fire bowl “Ochag” with benches. The project was implemented with the participation of more than 3 thousand residents.
In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), two landmark objects have appeared. The “Singing Sands” embankment in Vilyuysk is the winner of the All-Russian competition. Its key element is a tower in the form of a Yakut horse harness (sërge). The space is divided into Cossack, event, traditional, and sports zones. In Tommot, at the highest point of the city, an observation platform with a panoramic view of the Aldan River and the village opened. Its design integrates the symbolism of the railway, and a bike path connects the platform with the embankment.
Comprehensive improvement of the “Mayak” park on the Nagaev Bay coast was completed in Magadan. The total area of the renovated territory amounted to 9.9 hectares. Work was carried out from 2018 to 2025 in four stages: from walking routes and restoration of the historic lighthouse to the creation of a full-fledged recreational cluster. The concept of this final stage was built on the idea of “Zen” — a place of peace and contemplation with observation decks, children’s and sports zones, a café, and a quiet relaxation zone by the sea.
“Far Eastern regions have been actively involved in the processes of transforming public spaces, creating comfortable, safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing living environments for four years now. Thus, with the help of the All-Russian competition of the best projects for creating a comfortable urban environment, 233 winning projects have been selected from applications submitted by the subjects of the Far Eastern Federal District since 2019, and 141 of these projects have already been completed. Within the framework of the national projects “Housing and Urban Environment” and “Infrastructure for Life” in 2024–2025, the third and fourth competitions were held, 102 winners from 11 subjects of the Russian Federation were determined.”By 2025, 44 projects – winners of the competition – will be completed, with a planned indicator of 61 projects by 2026. These results show that the regions have actively engaged in creating a comfortable environment, and residents are receiving modern, functional, and at the same time unique spaces reflecting local identity, which are becoming new points of attraction for family recreation, sports, and cultural events. The number of residents of the Far Eastern Federal District participating in the selection of improvement projects through the nationwide voting for improvement facilities is steadily increasing: from 600 thousand people in 2021–2022 to 900 thousand in 2024–2025.Such dynamics demonstrate the demand for transformations and the high level of involvement of the Far East residents in shaping the appearance of their cities,” noted the Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services, Irek Faizullin.
