Beijing, July 3 /Xinhua/ — The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China on Thursday criticized the administration of the Democratic Progressive Party /DPP/ of Taiwan for obstructing the implementation of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement /ECFA/.
“The entire responsibility lies with the DPP administration for the RESC not being able to benefit a larger number of enterprises and people in Taiwan,” Zhu Fenglian, the official spokeswoman of the office, stated at a press briefing, responding to a question about this agreement signed in June 2010.
She drew attention to the fact that the ECFA is an important agreement on institutionalized economic cooperation, signed by the two sides of the Taiwan Strait based on the “1992 Consensus,” which has brought tangible benefits to enterprises and people on both sides of the strait, especially from Taiwan, since its implementation.
However, the stubborn separatist position of the DPP administration, its refusal to recognize the “1992 Consensus” and to implement the Agreement on Trade in Services under the ECFA, as well as to take measures to remove trade restrictions against mainland China, have seriously undermined the foundation for cross-strait consultations and the further implementation of the ECFA, the official representative pointed out.
Zhu Fenglian emphasized that the interests and well-being of Taiwanese compatriots can only be protected and strengthened if compatriots on both sides of the strait jointly and decisively oppose separatists.
Based on the “1992 Consensus,” any issues related to the RSES can be duly resolved through consultations between the shores of the strait, added Zhu Fenglan, warning that if the DPP administration ignores public opinion and creates even more problems, it will only harm itself.
