Moscow, July 2 /Xinhua/ — Germany, Japan, and Italy cannot claim permanent membership in the UN Security Council as long as they continue to vote against the resolution condemning the glorification of Nazism. This was stated on Thursday by Grigory Lukyantsev, Director of the Multilateral Cooperation Department on Human Rights at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
G. Lukyantsev made the corresponding statement during a press conference dedicated to the 3rd joint report of the foreign policy departments of Russia and Belarus on the human rights situation in certain countries.
“The fact that Germany, Japan, and Italy have been voting against the resolution condemning the glorification of Nazism since 2022 shows that these states evidently have not rid themselves of the ideas that once led to the outbreak of World War II. For us, it is absolutely clear that, at least as long as this continues, there can be no question of these states claiming permanent membership status on the UN Security Council, and, as is known, they are vying for such status,” the diplomat’s words are cited by RIA Novosti.
As G. Lukyantsev noted, the countries of the collective West are currently experiencing a problem of falsifying history and glorifying Nazism: the crimes of the Nazis during the Second World War are being justified, and participants in national liberation movements, collaborators, and those who cooperated with Nazi Germany are being elevated to the rank of national heroes.
According to the Russian diplomat, the West, by justifying Nazi ideology, contributes to the spread of ideas of racism and racial discrimination. “This is one of the tenets of racism, and thus all those who justify the crimes of the Nazis and Nazi ideology in fact contribute to the spread of ideas of racism and racial discrimination,” he emphasized.
